Here is an interesting device. Since the engine isn’t hung, the wires to the starter, mags and some other firewall forward devices are just loops waiting to be connected.  I reused this scrap piece seen in another post by installing some LEDs and hooking them up to the looped wires.  Push the starter, the start light goes on. The mag light actually tests both mag wires. Normally it is an open or closed grounding circuit. By running power through it, when it lights up, the mags are grounded and off.

These pictures show the voltage monitoring and alarm device and the hooked up push to test switch and signal light.

This however is my first wiring mistake.  I got this device well over a year ago and I’m sure I looked at the drawing to see how to hook it up.  I didn’t however look at it again as I was laying out my drawings.  I only looked at the device and assumed it was obvious how it worked – Nope.  It turns out it didn’t work and when I investigated it I found I had hooked it up wrong. I didn’t let any smoke out of the wires but there must be some in the box because I killed it.
