I also made up my comm. antenna from RG400 that Chris Williams gave me. (Thanks Chris). I had a stripper tool that worked perfectly and a crimper. The crimper worked perfectly but the operator malfunctioned, although I didn’t know it at the time. If you look closely you can see that the metal tube surrounding the wire is crimped into a hexagonal shape. However, you can see that the hex shape does not extend all the way to the connector. Unfortunately, I had not noticed that the tool die does not have a hex profile all the way across. It is round at one end. I had the hex side and the round side reversed, so the tight grip of the crimp is not holding fast. It’s fixed now. These two pictures show the antenna after I made a rounded wedge piece to support the flat antenna base and drilled the mounting holes. |
