After all the tweaks and double checks it was time to drill.  I started at the far end because access was easier and the kit supplied three spacers to use in that part of the spar.  In the picture below you can see that I drilled through every fifth pilot hole from the end.  A spacer was placed every 10 pilot holes – including the end – and I used a clamp across the spar to squeeze the caps together onto the spacer.  Drill four holes add clecos, remove the spacer, reattach the spacer 30 holes down and repeat.

A little more than halfway down the spacers can’t be used anymore.  However, at this point the spar and the main web are now locked together fairly well and kept in place by the additional web material.  As a double check, I used my square with the 90° head and the angle measuring head also set for 90°.  The two heads were set 7 19/32 apart and I could slip it over the spar caps and make sure they were squeezed in just right.  I didn’t get a picture of this but I will tomorrow.
