I went ahead and installed the oil breather system. The first three pictures show the 5/8” breather tube installed into the fitting on the engine block and routed up and through the rear baffle. The third picture shows the tube turning down and ending, with a rubber hose clamped to it.  The last picture shows the oil separator I bought from Sonex with the hose installed on the top inlet tube.

This unit can be used to return the oil to the crankcase if you want but I am not doing that.  If I was, this location would ruin my engine, as it is below the oil pan and all the oil would drain from the engine and overflow out the bottom of the unit.  If you run a return line you have to mount the unit per Sonex’s instructions.  In my case, I don’t even need the unit.  I could just run the oil breather tube out the bottom of the cowl, but then the oil would collect on my shiny belly instead of in the oil separator.  My return line is capped and the cap can be removed periodically to collect the accumulated oil.
